Are my hands just trying
To grasp the wind?
My longings escape me.
Context (if you’re interested):
Based on a poem my friend wrote. I am thinking about my endless longings that always seem to disappear when I grasp them.

Shrouded in mist
Where are you, oh, mountain peak?
What mysteries do you hold?
Context (if you’re interested):
I was hiking in Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan. In the morning, the mountains were shrouded in mist creating an interesting effect. It felt like the mountain itself was a mystery slowly revealing itself through the fog.

When you ponder the
Utter vastness of the world,
Life can feel like a dream.
Context (if you’re interested):

It takes an ocean
To sink such a massive ship.
Oh what majesty
In the waters that it could
Swallow the Titanic whole?
Context (if you’re interested):

Where lies the root of
Your belief that you are a
Hard person to love?
Context (if you’re interested):
This one was based on a conversation with a friend about insecurities.

No change in scenery
Can quell the storm
Raging in your head
Context (if you’re interested):
You are who you are, no matter where you go.

Goodbyes are as
Inevitable
As your first hello
Context (if you’re interested):
I was talking with a friend I made while traveling who told me about how the rejection she experienced in childhood left her always feeling anxious when she has to say goodbye as an adult. This poem comes out of that conversation.
