A toothpick in my mouth
Something to hold onto
But it jabs at my gums
Context (if you’re interested):
I kept a toothpick in mouth while talking with someone. I used it as a kind of fidget toy as we were talking, but it was a harsh-feeling one that constantly jabbed me.

In the world of beasts,
You discover how truly
Human they all are.
Alternative Version:
In the world of beasts,
You discover how beastly
Humans truly are.

I was the extra
In your own movie, supposed
To support your quest
Context (if you’re interested):
This was based on a poem I read, but I cannot remember the name or author of.

My home is not where
I will sleep tonight
Nor where I will sleep tomorrow. My home is not where
Everything seems right,
And I finally feel at peace. My home is not where
Those I love live
Nor where those I live with loveMy home is not where
I can sit easy and
Stay putMy home is where
My heart is
As it flutters across
The moving landscape of the world
Context (if you’re interested):
I was thinking about to what extent I feel at home while traveling the world.

Context (if you’re interested):
I’m trying something new with today’s poem: telling a story/stories through list of words.

I am not the cold man
Who fled because it was easier than staying
Who wouldn’t listen
Who wasn’t willing to grow
Who never tried to make it workI am not the cold man
Who couldn’t stand the pressure
Who chose an easy way out
Who ran away from sufferingBut I am the cold man
Who is too sick of it all
To do anything but
Find his own warmth
Context (if you’re interested):
Someone in a recent interaction portrayed going your separate way as a type of cowardly retreat, and the idea for this poem came to show that that is not always the case.

Oh lovely silence,
The sound I play to conjure
My haunting memories
Context (if you’re interested):
This poem is about how when things get quiet that my memories come back.

I know you didn’t have forever,
But I thought you had longer than this.
I wish we could have talked
Even hugged
Without that other looming face
Standing in between us
Context (if you’re interested):
Someone I know just died. That is what I am working through here.

I’d like to go back
To the wind, the only one
Who ever made sense.I’d like to go back
To the wind, the only voice
That can still speak to me
While it listensI’d like to go back
To the wind, the only place
I could call my home.
Context (if you’re interested):
I have been fascinated by the wind lately. Sometimes I feel like I can really relate to it.
