Shrouded in mist
Where are you, oh, mountain peak?
What mysteries do you hold?

Context (if you’re interested):

I was hiking in Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan. In the morning, the mountains were shrouded in mist creating an interesting effect. It felt like the mountain itself was a mystery slowly revealing itself through the fog.

When you ponder the
Utter vastness of the world,
Life can feel like a dream.

Context (if you’re interested):

Our lives can feel so small as to seem unreal when you consider how big the universe is.

Goodbyes are as
Inevitable
As your first hello

Context (if you’re interested):

I was talking with a friend I made while traveling who told me about how the rejection she experienced in childhood left her always feeling anxious when she has to say goodbye as an adult. This poem comes out of that conversation.
