A midnight meeting
Woke up in the back of my van
To talk to the US
Blast from the Past:
A job will take all that you are willing to give it.
(An aphorism)
The Cracked Door – Daily Haikus
Reflections on life, the world, and society. Come explore with me.

A midnight meeting
Woke up in the back of my van
To talk to the US
Blast from the Past:
A job will take all that you are willing to give it.
(An aphorism)

The gentle breeze sweeps
Across the stale heat along
The dusty desert
Blast from the Past:
I’m in the hot sun
Swaying in my seat trying
To produce a breeze

I sit here thinking
Up the poem I will write
One word at a time
Blast from the Past:
I must write one of
These haikus. If only I had
Any inspiration.

Oh waters of Babylon
Can your ever
Collect all my tears?
Blast from the Past:
Every tear wept
By the abused is a crown
Drawn to a new dawn

What are memories
But faint dreams that we rewrite
With each new visit
Blast from the Past:
Memories, like dreams,
Flee the mind, real then but absorbed
By our present life

It is not the fear
Of death I have, but the fear
Of never living…
Blast from the Past:
The only constant
More certain than death is our
Quest for more in life

A small blade of grass
Reveals in simplicity
The beauty of life
Blast from the Past:
The spider’s web:
Like all nature’s art:
Intricate and beautiful
Yet gone the next day

When I see a cliff, I see death. When a bird sees a cliff, it sees opportunity. (When a vulture sees me fumbling for a better view of the bird along the cliff, it sees lunch.)
Blast from the Past:
Fighting for its life,
The worm forces the bird to
Work for her breakfast.

What’s a roadtrip but
An endless excursion to
The next gas station
Blast from the Past:
New day
New drive
New trails
New hikes
Same feel

A twisting tree
Clasping through the wind
Towards the sun
Blast from the Past:
The persistent breeze
Finally finds its home in
The leaves of the tree
