Beautiful pictures
But lacking any sense of
Self and sympathy
Blast from the Past:
A picture’s worth a
Thousand words, but a film’s worth
A thousand pictures.
The Cracked Door – Daily Haikus
Reflections on life, the world, and society. Come explore with me.
Poems about writing poetry or writing in general

Beautiful pictures
But lacking any sense of
Self and sympathy
Blast from the Past:
A picture’s worth a
Thousand words, but a film’s worth
A thousand pictures.

The best haikus are
The ones that I never
End up writing down
Blast from the Past:
Ode to that great thought
That disappeared when I went
To write it down here.

What is poetry?
Remove the words and meaning,
Poetry’s what’s left.
Blast from the Past:
Poets can’t afford
Only to sing about their
True inspiration

Orange leaves cover
The ground in February,
Baked in intense heat
(A reflection on the current weather in Northeast Thailand, where it is getting hot yet many trees loose their leaves. This feels different from the winters in the US that I am familiar with)
Blast from the Past:
I lie in the shade
Of your blistering haiku
No rest from the heat

This poem didn’t
Have time for
The endless merchants,
Those too poor to leave,
All of the beggars,
Or the many maids
Cleaning up after we had gone
Blast from the Past:
Bureaucrat capitalists:
Arriving to save the day
Perfectly “neutral”

Hair stood up, chapped lips,
Foggy brain, drooped eyes, parched throat,
Itchy crotch, moist socks
Posthumous title: Several Days in International Airports
Blast from the Past:
Lines of bright roads on
The dark landscape, like the veins
Of their society

I am a haiku
In search of a meaning to
Attach myself to
Blast from the Past:
I tried including
So much into this haiku,
It had no meaning.

Destroying the grand
Majesty of the blank page
With a squiggly line
Blast from the Past:
Filled with mysteries
Counted, compressed, and punctured
What is a haiku?

Poetry is the
Discovery of things I’ve
Never seen before
Blast from the Past:
Writing my haiku
There into the sand as the
Wave finishes it
