01/14/26 A New Haiku for a New Day

All I can do is
Nothing
Compared to the
Heaven you give me

Blast from the Past:

Instead of “better half”,
I prefer the idea of
One’s “bettering half”

A word to the wise:
Always remember to breathe
Instead of yelling

Blast from the Past:

Out of anger and spite
You shot yourself in the foot.
Forgot the ricochet

Every dish
Is an adventure.
Will it be sweat, spicy, savory
You never know
Until you bite.

Blast from the Past:

An aphorism:

If you want to really understand someone, watch how they eat a burrito.

The lessons of life
Rarely come cheap. Their price is
Etched in my wrinkles.

Blast from the Past:

After all of this,
We’ll need a second life to
Apply what we learned

Sit back. Close your eyes.
Today is the one day that
You get to be off

Blast from the Past:

You know: on some days
You’re just mildly disgusting,
And that is just fine.

As each morning fades,
The moon quietly gives birth
To the blazing sun

Blast from the Past:

The moon shines for whom?
Dancing in her own spotlight
Through which I see tonight

The need for wages
To eat, to relax, to live,
Money’s a prison

Blast from the Past:

We make our money
Just to go and spend it all.
What is the point then?

(My poem for today is a tanka.)

Bolting to the street
In such a rush I forget
To even decide
How I will get around or
Even where I am going

Blast from the Past:

Rapids rinse water
Free of color – too rushed to
Reflect its world back

When you look up,
Remember I am seeing
The same sun.

Blast from the Past:

The whole universe
There in the glint of your eye
The next moment gone

The rain subsided
Only for the overcast clouds
To linger above

Why do deserts lose
The capacity to hold
The rain they do get?
