03/27/26 A New Poem for a New Day

I sit in the humid air
Trying to sleep
Music blares from a nearby church
It’s not even 6:00 am

Blast from the Past:

Brainstorming: A burst
Of ideas but they vanish
Once pen’s in hand

As I paint these words
In my poem, I really
Paint my very heart

Blast from the Past:

My thoughts fall like rain
As I grab as many as I can
As words for you

May you go quietly
Into the night, while I follow
Kicking and screaming

Blast from the Past:

If death is nothing
Then the pursuit of pleasure
Is life’s sole purpose.

Don’t tell me today
Is the best day of my life.
That would mean that all
Future days will be worse than
How I feel in this moment

Blast from the Past:

When the light fades out
Remember: all you worked for
Will one day decay

Let us walk into
The abyss knowing that we’ll
Never be the same

Blast from the Past:

The weight of freedom
Drags me far down the abyss
The trick? To lift it.

The cliff faces shine
Against the waters of the
Rice paddies below

Blast from the Past:

The shooting star glides,
The last piece of the jigsaw
Filling in the sky

As the world splinters,
All that’s left is to learn to
Splinter together

Blast from the Past:

Promise of quick gain
For those who can spin. The world’s
An oyster of hate.

The sun felt like there’s
Only darkness ‘cause out of it
Shone the light for all

Blast from the Past:

Galaxy of stars
Dance in lock step as you draw
Them close into you

Glitter that is gold
Just weighs me down. Give me cheap
Confectionery

Blast from the Past:

Money:

Reducing all things
To one scale of diminishing
Value to attain

Filtering my thoughts
All in the attempt to produce
Creativity

Blast from the Past:

Always keep moving
There is always more art to
Create if you will.
